With 2025 right around the corner, it’s time to begin thinking about the design trends that will reign supreme next year. We were particularly interested in learning what types of patterns the pros expect to see more of in the coming months—and based on their responses, we’re pretty excited about what lies ahead!

Stripes

You can never go wrong with classic stripes. “Incorporating stripes into our homes can be a great way to bring in pattern for a timeless and classic look, particularly for those who may be more daunted by how to incorporate patterns into their spaces,” explains Michael Graham-Smith. Truthfully, the opportunities to use stripes are never ending, the founder of Graham-Smith Designs adds. “Currently, we see stripes in upholstery, wallpaper, rugs, and even creative applications like shower tiles,” he says. “Their adaptability to both modern and traditional settings makes them a favorite.”

Checks

Don’t forget about checks, either! “Checks are making a comeback,” says Melissa Mahoney, who references the popularity of checkerboard floors in recent years. In 2025, mid-scale checks will be all the rage, says the founder of Melissa Mahoney Design House. “Checks, like stripes, are a timeless neutral in the way they coordinate with other patterns—checks with florals, checks with stripes, checks with geometrics,” she says. “Check pattern play always works, which is why it only makes sense that true checks in neutral on neutral to high contrast color ways will be coming in with a vengeance.”

Grandmillenial Style Patterns

We’ll be continuing to say yes to all things grandmillennial chic (with a twist!) in 2025, according to Sara Swabb, the founder of Storie Collective. “Florals and traditional patterns like chinoiserie and toile will continue to thrive, but with smaller scale and unexpected color palettes—think heathered plum paired with mustard or deep teal accented with burnt orange,” she says. “These bring a cozy yet elevated vibe to any room.”

Graham-Smith agrees that florals will continue to maintain a large presence, especially when inspired by organic forms and botanical motifs. “Clients increasingly want to embrace patterns that bring the outdoors in, creating a sense of connection with nature,” he says. “These patterns are perfect for adding color, depth, and a touch of romance to spaces, making them ideal for bold powder bath wallpaper patterns, statement furnishings, or even drapery.”

Monochromatic Looks

Bring on the color drenching and go all in with your favorite shade. “For the bold, consider patterns in single hues with subtle texture or tone-on-tone effects,” Swabb says. “Pairing window treatments with color-drenched walls creates a cohesive, enveloping space—my favorite way to use bold tones.”

Organic and Geometric Patterns

Bring on the funky shapes, says Paige Garland, the founder of Paige Garland Interior Design, who foresees plenty of pattern mixing taking place, too. On a related note, block print patterns will be big next year, Graham-Smith shares. “Their imperfections and natural motifs, often inspired by global design traditions, make them ideal for creating a cozy and lived-in atmosphere,” he says. “Block prints resonate with the desire for authenticity and craftsmanship in today’s luxury homes.”
