Going Bold In The Guest Bathroom

The guest bathroom is the perfect place to take a risk in terms of color and pattern, given that you don’t set foot inside of this space every day. With the holiday season right around the corner, why not take some time to quickly spruce up your space before overnight guests arrive? Here, interior designers share their top tips for making a guest bathroom shine with Pepper patterns to ensure that your stylish home is the talk of the town.

Go Blue and Green All Over

Say hello to charming greens in the guest bath! Kate McElhiney, the founder of Kate McElhiney Studio, envisions pairing the Serena Sea Salt Clay Coated Wallpaper alongside with the Serena Sea Salt Custom Shower Curtain. “This gives a bespoke feeling to the room, without the cost and headache of having to specially order a shower curtain,” she says. “If your guest bath doubles as a powder room, the shower curtain can be kept closed, camouflaging the tub and making the room feel like a half bath while entertaining.” Pro tip: McElhiney suggests mounting the shower rod as high as possible, noting that this, too, will make a bathroom appear more custom.

Finally, don’t forget about your window treatments! “I prefer a cafe curtain in bathrooms, which allow as much light in as possible without sacrificing privacy,” the designer says. “With the Serena on the walls and shower curtain, go simple on the cafe curtains—the Flour Custom Cafe Curtain with a sky velvet band along the bottom edge would finish the room off perfectly.”

Mo Dana, the founder of XOMO Studio, is also partial to Serena Sea Salt for a guest bathroom, going all in with coordinating wallpaper, cafe curtains, and a shower curtain. Then, she’d paint the ceiling a sky blue that draws from the Serena Sea Salt pattern, “carrying that through in the trim and door color creates a seamless look.” To finish off the look, go all in with a skirted sink made from Serena Sea Salt fabric, Dana adds.

Play With Multiple Patterns

Of course, rather than drenching your bathroom with one pattern, you can opt to weave multiple into the space. “In small powder rooms, I love to envelop the space with bold, moody colors on all four walls,” says Rebecca Ward, the founder of Rebecca Ward Design. “Wallpapers are a great way to go big and bold without the risk of overdoing it; guests are whisked away by the exotic and romantic pattern play.” Ward suggests looking at the Suzy Maroon Clay Coated Wallpaper or the Annabelle Midnight Clay Coated Wallpaper to pull get the look. “For added intrigue, consider incorporating the ‘fifth wall’—the ceiling—by either wallpapering it or color-matching the ceiling paint to the wallpaper’s background color,” she says.

Go Geometric Yet Traditional

Audra Samnotra, the founder of Social Swan Decor, imagines using the Hockney Sky Performance Wallpaper in a guest or pool bath. “Pairing it with Sherwin Williams’ Bosc Pear trim would be chic,” she says. “The mix of a modern pattern and traditional color would look so pretty with a warm wood vanity.” On the windows, she recommends using the Snow Sheer Custom Cafe Curtain. “Privacy is often something to solve for in bathrooms, and this is a clever way to add functionality and character,” the designer says. “I don't love sheer curtains everywhere, but this size is perfectly understated.”
