What is the difference between a cornice and a valance?
A cornice is a structured, architectural window treatment that creates a clean, tailored look. Cornices are made from fabric-covered upholstered wood panels with batting, giving them a heavier weight and a more high-end, substantial feel. Because of their solid construction, cornices sit firmly above the window and create strong visual lines—perfect for spaces where you want a crisp, custom finish. Cornices are ideal for rooms where you want a bold, polished statement—think dining rooms, living rooms, or anywhere you want a more formal, elevated look.
A valance is a softer, more decorative window treatment that offers flexibility in both style and trim. Valances are made from fabric-wrapped dust cover board with no wood, making them lighter in weight than cornices. This lighter construction allows for more decorative shaping and detailing, giving valances a relaxed, versatile feel. Valances work beautifully in spaces where you want softness and charm—bedrooms, kitchens, or casual living areas.
What construction styles are available?
Cornices are available in a Linear style.
Valances are available in Classic or Scalloped.
Can I add trim to a valance?
Yes! We offer trim on the Classic and Scalloped styles. We can add bands, rick rack, tassels and pom poms to the bottom edge only.
Can I add trim to a cornice?
Yes! We can add a band to the bottom edge only.
What widths are offered?
We offer custom widths down to the 1/2" for both cornices and valances. The minimum width is 24" and the maximum width is 106".
What heights are offered?
We offer three heights for both cornices and valances: 10", 14" and 18".
What is the depth of the cornice or valance?
You can choose from 3.5" (standard) or 5.5" (deep).
What are the mounting options?
Our cornices and valances are only available as outside mount.
