Curtain FAQs

The Thread Resources August 2021

We believe a room isn't complete until the windows are dressed. Our custom curtains are thoughtfully designed to suit your space and style. Read along for answers to our most frequently asked curtain questions!

Are panels sold individually or as a pair?

Panels are sold individually.

What panel widths do you offer?

Windows come in all shapes and sizes, which is why we have you covered with four different widths—25”, 50”, 75" and 100”.

I need help choosing panel width and length. Where do I start?

Our team of trusted engineers created a simple-to-use measurement finder to help you determine how many panels you need, and what their length and width should be. Head to our Curtain Calculator to get started!

I don't see the pattern I want on the custom curtains page. Are all of your patterns available as curtains?

Yes! If you don't see the fabric you're interested in on our custom curtains page, email hello@pepper-home.com and we will send you a custom invoice.

Can I add trim to my curtain panels?

Yes! You can add pom poms, tassels, bands or rick rack to all of our curtains except sheers. Silk curtains can be customized with pom poms or tassels.

How will my curtains ship?

Curtains are made-to-order and ship within 2 weeks. We ship via FedEx, and all orders include a tracking number. A delivery signature is required for orders over $550, as this requirement greatly reduces the risk of lost or stolen packages. You may choose to waive this requirement at checkout.

What is the difference between ring top, pinch pleat, tailored pleat, grommet, and rod pocket?

We break down everything you need to know about the construction options we offer in our Custom Curtain Styles blog post.

Do you have any curtain hardware recommendations?

Yes! For rod pocket construction, we suggest a 1.25" or smaller rod to accommodate the sewn pocket. Head to our Curtain Hardware Edit to shop some of our go-to rods and finials.

How much will my curtains weigh?

Curtain weight depends on construction and size! See our table below for the approximate weight of each panel in pounds.

Do you suggest pressing or dry cleaning the curtains when they arrive?

No need to press or dry clean! We suggest hanging the panels immediately so gravity can do its thing on wrinkles and creases. Use a steamer if you'd like, but not on velvet. You can also train the curtains by gathering the pleats neatly together. Once gathered, use string to tie the pleats together about 1/4th of the way down from the top. Follow the pleats down the curtain and tie them together again, about 1/4th of the way from the bottom. Wait at least 48 hours to remove the tape or string. Your panel is now "trained" to hang with nicely folded pleats!

Are the sheer curtains lined?

No, our sheer curtains are not lined. Sheer panels are designed to let in light while still maintaining some privacy.

What's the difference between privacy and blackout lining?

Privacy lining lets in a bit of light, while blackout lining lets you sleep in.

Are curtain rings included in a purchase?

No, rings are not included with purchase. However, curtain hooks are sewn in on ring top, pinch pleat and tailored pleat panels. See below for the number of rings you need per panel.

What type of curtain rings should I purchase?

For ring top, pinch pleat, and tailored pleat construction, you should purchase double rings (like those pictured below) from your curtain rod manufacturer. Check out our Curtain Hardware Edit for some of our favorite curtain rings.

What curtain rod should I choose?

The curtain construction influences which rod is best for your panels. See below for our suggestions:

Rod Pocket: We suggest a 1.25" or smaller rod to accommodate the sewn pocket.

Grommet: Curtain grommets have an inside diameter of 1.56", so we suggest using a 1.5" rod. We also suggest using a black rod to match the color of the grommets.

Ring Top, Pinch Pleat, & Tailored Pleat: Choose a rod that is roughly 1.25" in diameter. See above for the number of rings you need per panel.

How do I choose the correct panel length?

We put together this helpful table to help you calculate the correct panel length:

Do you offer roman shades?

We do! You can shop our Roman Shade Collection here.

I want to order pillows to match my curtains. How do I know what patterns work together?

We design our patterns to effortlessly mix and match! If you need additional direction, fill out this form or email our design team at design@pepper-home.com for complimentary assistance!

Can I return a curtain order?

As our curtains are custom and made-to-order, they cannot be exchanged or returned.

What is the lead time for custom curtains?

Our curtains are made in the USA and shipped in 2 weeks (unless the fabric is marked as pre-order).

What's the best way to clean curtains?

Our custom curtains should be dry cleaned or spot treated only. If needed, steam gently–but not on velvet fabrics. For velvet, use a velvet brush instead.

What kind of dyes are used to print your fabric?

Our digital printing operation is set up to print on natural-fiber fabrics with fiber-reactive dyes. Fiber reactive dyes are more environmentally friendly than pigment dyes. In addition, our fabrics contain no PFAS.

What is the finished width of a pinch pleat curtain panel?

The construction of pinch pleat curtains creates built-in volume at the bottom. If you order a 50” wide pinch pleat panel, for example, the top will have a finished width of 50” while the bottom will be 100” wide.

Do your curtains have seams?

Due to the width of our fabric, some curtains will have seams where two pieces are sewn together.

Printed Curtains: 75" & 100” wide pinch pleat and tailored pleat curtains will have seams.

Solid Curtains: 75" & 100” wide ring top, grommet, and rod pocket curtains, and 50”, 75" & 100” wide pinch pleat and tailored pleat curtains will have seams.

Will the pattern on the panels line up when the curtains are closed?

Due to fabric width and repeat size limitations, patterns may not align across multiple curtain panels. Therefore, when the curtains are closed, the pattern may not line up between the two curtains.

Can I order Margot curtains with a pinch pleat construction?

No, due to the thickness of the fabric, we cannot make Margot curtains with a pinch pleat construction.
