Looking to transform your space for the season in a way that will last beyond the holidays? We’re all about opting for winter decor that will still look appropriate in January and February (because let’s face it, winter is long) and have asked interior designers to share some of their favorite winter accents. Keep reading to gather stylish tips for sprucing up your space—we all deserve to relax somewhere welcoming and cozy when the temps are absolutely brutal!
Go Bold with Color and Texture
Textural accents will take your home from so-so to super cozy. “You want your home to feel like it is giving you a hug,” says Katie Hilburn, the founder of Katie Hilburn Interiors. “Textures for winter and colder seasons include velvet, chenille, wool, and perhaps a splash of sherpa.” Then, it’s time to think about your color scheme to ensure your space doesn't fall flat. “Add rich, warm colors, like chocolate brown, burgundy, navy, and deep greens,” the designer suggests. “Bonus points if your added texture is a bold cozy color!”

Bring in Natural Touches
Instead of displaying florals, corral pine branches in a vase to add a natural touch to your home that is appropriate for the season, offers JoAnna Baum, the founder of JoAnna Baum Interiors. The designer will also display pinecones in a decorative bowl for “an organic, seasonal touch.”
Add Some Ribbon
Bows and ribbon are having a major moment, and you can incorporate them in your space even after the holidays are over. “ I also love adding rich maroon or chocolate brown velvet ribbons to unexpected places—sconces, picture frames, candlesticks,” Baum says. “It’s such an easy way to layer texture and color for the winter months.”
Style the Kitchen
Make a few decorative swaps in your kitchen to enhance the space for the cold weather months. “I keep a vintage brass tea kettle on display year-round, but during winter, its charm feels especially fitting for the season,” Baum says.
Make Your Space Fragrant
Scents go a long way in making any home feel more welcoming. Jaime Zehner, the founder of JZ Interiors, will make a garland out of dried oranges, cedar, and ribbon. “It is a heavenly smell,” she says. “I let them hang through the winter months, as they add a hint of color and nostalgia.”
Rethink Your Lighting
Everyone appreciates candles in the winter time, but you can take things a step further with fairy lights, too. Zehner will add these to her windows once she takes down her Christmas tree in order to enjoy a similar effect.
Rethink Your Guest Bathroom
Last but not least, make an effort to keep your home in prime hosting condition. “Winter months inevitably bring guests, whether you're providing a taste of winter wonderland or the escape from it,” says Callie Windle, who runs an eponymous firm. “I love to take a second look at my guest bathroom and clients' guest bathrooms during the season, to ensure visitors are met with thoughtful hospitality. Pretty details, like a cute shower curtain or custom towels, go a long way to making guests feel special.”
